The Chief Population Health Officer leads growth and development efforts at Castell, an industry-leading population health platform company supporting >1M lives in multi-payer, multi-product value-based care arrangements. The CPHO advances Intermountain's Mission, Vision, and Values and key strategies related to value-based transformation.

This position can be performed remotely with travel as needed. Intermountain Health maintains employment registration in Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Colorado, Montana, and Wyoming. Candidates in other locations may be considered. Currently, we are not hiring remote workers in the following states: CA, HI, IL, PA, RI, WA.

Job Essentials

  • Leads Castell activities in value-based network development and contracting.
  • Leads Castell activities in value-based payer contracting and contract performance.
  • Leads Castell customer success efforts by partnering with payer and provider customers.
  • Partners with Intermountain regional leadership, affiliated provider partners, and external parties to create mutually beneficial value-based success.
  • Partners with Castell leaders and system and payer stakeholders to grow revenue through appropriate and compliant risk adjustment activity.
  • Develops, leads, and maintains strong partnerships with local, regional, and national value-based care partners. The CPHO represents Castell and Intermountain Health as a national thought leader in value-based care.
  • Partners with Canyons Regional Executive Team (RET) to develop the comprehensive, integrated VBC tactical strategy, including the possible development of a Utah-based Clinically Integrated Network (CIN) to succeed in VBC.
  • Partners with Select Health and Intermountain enterprise leadership to refine and grow self-funded products.
  • Partners with Intermountain Finance/Contracting to serve as the technical/contract domain expert in VBC, drive system-oriented value-based impact, and integrate value-based payer contracting capabilities into Intermountain Finance/Contracting (long term).
  • The CPHO reports to the Chief Executive Officer (Castell)


Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters or equivalent degree in relevant field.
  • 10 years of progressive healthcare leadership in population health and value-based care
  • Sound financial and quantitative analytical skills, excellent diplomacy and persuasive capabilities, and other verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change.
  • Demonstrated leadership, personal and professional ethics, and an ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • Strong negotiation and financial management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead value-based contracting and partnership activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead appropriate revenue and risk adjustment growth.
  • Demonstrated alignment with Intermountain Healthcare Mission, Vision and Values.
  • Demonstrated high performance on the Intermountain Leadership Competencies.
  • Demonstrated competency in Population Health management.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills

Additional Job Description

This is an exempt, full-time position with a compensation range of $265,762-300,009 annually and as determined by prior years of relevant experience. In addition to the annual salary, to show our commitment to you and assist with your transition into our organization, we may offer a sign-on and relocation bonus when applicable. With this position, you are eligible to participate in the Annual Pay for Performance (AP4P) Plan. This plan enables Intermountain Health to provide leaders with an additional performance compensation opportunity. The AP4P award opportunities are calculated as a percentage of your base salary. Awards are paid out based on attainment of selected Board-approved goals.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$115.01 - $177.53
