The Director of R&D and Laboratory Services that supports our SDC business has responsibility for leading Mesa's Sterilization Disinfection Control division ("SDC") new product development, sustaining and product improvement efforts. Additionally, the role will be responsible for managing our laboratory services department and the global teams which are responsible for assisting customers' testing needs to solve unique and custom problems. This role is responsible for developing and executing strategic plans and product roadmaps while simultaneously exploring new technology trends and developments. This role is global in scope for SDC with direct reports in both the U.S. and Germany. We are seeking a forward-thinking leader to further optimize and expand our product portfolio, drive execution, create consistency and across facilities and laboratories, build and develop the team to ensure technological and scientific resources meet SDC needs, and develop appropriate outside partnerships to address skill, technology and product gaps.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Model personal Lean Philosophy 5S behaviors in creating a continuously improving, clean, well-organized and self-maintaining work environment. Work closely with team members and others to motivate and improve 5S knowledge and implementation.
  • Follow a continuous improvement approach for team accountability for achieving high performance SQDCM (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, & Morale) targets through a visual work environment.

  • Lead R&D Development: Set the right priorities according to SDC strategy and business plan, create clarity toward all stakeholders regarding crucial development needs and project status.
  • Build and implement a new product roadmap consistent with business strategy. Development of the team and, if required, outside partnerships to ensure skills and competencies match business needs.
  • Lead and development of the scientific team: Identify competence gaps and development needs to make teams fit for current and future development challenges. Set clear direction and targets and follow up on performance, be a role model demonstrating passion and a can-do attitude within the organization and towards stakeholders.
  • Lead scientific endeavors and product/process improvements and enhancements across the SDC portfolio.
  • Develop a science and technology-based vision and lead exploration of new technologies, products and applications to ensure long term growth in selected markets and applications. Lead role in acquisitions, licensing, partnering to meet strategic objectives.
  • Develop laboratory services team into an industry leading organization delivering custom products and testing/consulting services to meet customer's unique and challenging requirements with sterilization, cycle development and validation.
  • Represent SDC in scientific meetings and customer accounts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications/Education:

  • Bachelor's degree microbiology, biology, chemistry, engineering, or closely related field. Master's is highly desirable.
  • 10 or more years' related experience with research and development, lab operations required. Experience in Sterilization preferred
  • Experience in building and leading high performance scientific teams in a commercial environment
  • Established track record of scientific and product development achievements in a commercial environment.
  • Experience in developing and launching sterilization indicators.
  • Previous medical device, healthcare, or regulated industry experience.
  • Previous experience with ISO, AAMI, USP, EP, FDA 510k committees, standards and regulations and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong history of collaboration with the commercial and operational teams
  • Strong scientific acumen and the ability to collaborate with global cross-functional teams including commercial and operational teams
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience

Compensation/Benefits:

The company offers a comprehensive benefits package and compensation for this position. The package includes base salary, bonus, equity, medical/dental/vision insurance, 401k/Match.

Base Salary Range for this position is $150,000 - $180,000.
