Summary Statement

This position will be responsible for maintaining and growing the social media accounts for the Montana state office.


Responsibilities

Social Media Intern responsibilities include:

  • Learning AARP’s mission, culture, history and projects with special emphasis on understanding AARP membership and the 50+

  • Under the direct supervision of the intern manager, creating and updating posts, profiles and pages for Facebook and Twitter through the Sprinklr marketing platform – posts to be scheduled to run daily, including weekends

  • Identifying new or additional social media channels

  • Collaborating with cross-functional AARP teams to develop marketing and communications plans that leverage the social media space

  • Tracking the growth and impact of social media channels and suggesting action steps to increase influence and relevance

  • Formulating social media plans and executing those plans based on the expectations and guidance of the Montana offices

  • Attending and live tweeting from selected events. Capturing photos/videos at events.

  • Identifying how social media fits into AARP’s strategy to build long-lasting relationships by providing value to members and partners

  • Assisting the internship manager with the development and execution of paid social media advertising campaigns designed to increase impact and relevance across all incorporated social media outlets

  • Under the direction of the internship manager creating content and posting to the Montana blog page

  • Assisting the internship manager with the development of traditional media content and outreach to media partners

  • Responsible for serving as an “AARP brand steward” by protecting the AARP brand and its reputation through the responsible use of social media

  • Under the direct supervision of the internship manager, sharing and commenting on other people’s posts on the AARP Montana pages, but also on the pages of others that we want to engage – i.e. community partners, elected officials, opinion leaders, media, etc.

  • Creating content, including videos, for posting on social media.


Requirements

Interns must be currently enrolled in a degreed program at an accredited college or university; maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0; and be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors.

Additional requirements include:

  • Solid foundation and knowledge of social media channels from a professional application

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, strong editing skills

  • Creativity with an eye for design

  • Ability to develop a detailed and professional marketing plan

  • Proficient in the use of various technological tools including tablets, smartphones, computers, and other standard office equipment

  • Proficiency in Microsoft products

  • Ability to deal with uncertainty and ambiguity

  • Ability to work independently

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is not required but is a plus

  • Must have a high level of intellectual curiosity and ability to generate new and innovative ideas

  • Ability to identify a target market and uniquely speak to that audience

  • Basic photography and video skills are required

  • The ability to shoot and edit compelling video is a plus.
